Inquiry announces first local investigations and national hearings

24th June 2026

The Statutory Independent Inquiry into Grooming Gangs has today announced the first areas for its local investigations and plans for national public accountability hearings.

Oldham, Bradford and Keighley, and London have been selected as the initial locations for Local Area Investigations. These will examine what happened in each area, how children were targeted and exploited, how institutions responded, and what needs to change. Further areas will be announced later this year.

The Inquiry has also confirmed that its first national public accountability hearings will begin before the end of 2026. These will examine how institutions and services responded to grooming gangs and why recommendations from previous reviews – more than 800 identified to date – were not consistently implemented.

Alongside this, the Inquiry has published its Victims and Survivors Charter, setting out how it will support, listen to and involve victims and survivors throughout its work.
