Inquiry goes before the Home Affairs Select Committee

18 May 2026

The Home Affairs Select Committee (HASC) is a cross‑party group of MPs that scrutinises the work of the Home Office and wider home affairs policy and will hear from the Chair and Panel of the independent inquiry into grooming gangs on 19 May.

Select Committees like HASC play an important role in holding government to account. They gather evidence from experts, organisations and those directly affected by issues, and use this to examine how policies are working in practice and where improvements are needed.

The session on 19 May will focus on how the independent inquiry is being set up, its scope, and how it plans to carry out its work. MPs are expected to question the Chair and Panel on the inquiry’s approach, independence, and how it will engage with victims, communities and stakeholders.

We are taking part to help ensure the Committee has a clear and well‑informed understanding of the issues, bringing forward evidence and perspectives from across those involved.

Ultimately, the session forms part of HASC’s wider aim to assess whether the inquiry is equipped to deliver meaningful findings, build public confidence, and contribute to stronger safeguarding and policy responses in the future.
