Protocol on Restriction Orders, Redaction and Anonymity

11 June 2026

This Protocol explains how the Inquiry manages sensitive information, including the use of redaction, restriction orders and anonymity.

The Inquiry is committed to openness and transparency, but recognises that limits on disclosure are sometimes necessary to protect individuals, ensure fairness, and safeguard the public interest. The Chair has the legal power to impose restrictions on the disclosure or publication of information where required by law, necessary for the Inquiry’s work, or in the public interest.

Victims of sexual offences will automatically be granted anonymity unless they choose otherwise. In other cases, individuals may apply for anonymity or other measures.
