Last week, Baroness Anne Longfield CBE, Chair of the Independent Inquiry into Grooming Gangs, appeared before the Home Affairs Select Committee alongside panellists Zoë Billingham CBE and Eleanor Kelly CBE. The session provided the Chair and Panel with the opportunity to update MPs about how the Inquiry is progressing, to set out our approach, and to answer questions. The session is available to watch on Parliamentlive.tv.

What we are working on now

Alongside the Select Committee session, the Inquiry is finalising the next important phase of its work – the framework that will be used to select areas for local investigations. Our framework will set out clearly how the decisions about local investigations will be taken based on a range of evidence. We will publish the framework setting out the criteria for local area selection before 13 July.

Victims and survivors are central to this inquiry, and we are continuing to meet, to talk and to listen to victims and survivor groups. Since the Inquiry was announced, we have met in communities, in small groups, and through survivor led organisations. The testimony and experiences that have been shared with us will continue to shape how our Inquiry works and progresses.

We are currently developing a Victims and Survivors Charter, which will set out the commitments we make to everyone who engages with the Inquiry. This is being tested with survivors and survivor organisations to make sure it is clear, realistic and works in practice. We will publish the Charter alongside our local area investigation announcements.
